Saturday Stone Carving, Beginners to Intermediate
with Rebecca Davis
6 Saturdays, beginning July 11^th
9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Enjoy learning the fundamentals of stone carving, focusing on the basic techniques of carving and the development of ideas and forms. Beginners use hand tools to carve alabaster. Intermediate carvers will work in a full range of stone using hand and power tools. Start with an idea and finish with a beautiful stone carving. Class Cost: $108

Make Your Own Metal Bowl: Techniques in Vessel Raising

'Vessel Raising' is the technique of raising a metal vessel from a flat sheet. Learn the steps involved in creating a basic bowl out of a flat copper sheet. In High School Reunions:  Strategies for Coping & Creating an Enjoyable Experience, Dr. Gail Eisen will offer a unique opportunity to re-visit the rich landscapes of high school, exploring ways in which adult identity and ideals might have been shaped during the adolescent years.

4 QUICK TIPS FOR A BETTER HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

1.  Cultivate your social networks in advance: Make contact with people you do hope to see, and make arrangements to attend the Reunion with one or two of these long-time friends. Via telephone, e-mail, or Facebook, craft a plan to arrive together, sit together during at least a part of the evening’s program, and even arrange to de-brief together sometime after the event.

2.  Think in advance about your “personal narrative” – how you tend to introduce yourself to strangers, and to others you have not seen in many years. How has your narrative changed and evolved during the last 10 years?  What two or three sentences might summarize your experiences and new insights?

3.  Bring to the event family photos or travel images – both old and new – to share with classmates, stimulate discussion, and fill in the gaps when conversation might be lagging.

4.  Be aware that no matter your preconceptions, some positive results will come from this experience. Without doubt you will discover a few real surprises and some interesting and compelling personalities, and for a very few, perhaps even a rekindling of a previous romance.

Spring Term Last-Chance Parenting Classes

Do you know a parent looking for new ways to spend fun and healthy quality time with their child?

At the CLL, parents and caregivers are welcome to come learn positive parenting attitudes through observation and participation with other parents and families. Classes also provide opportunities for sharing and discussion of timely questions.

Infant Times I: Newborn to Crawling  

4 Thursdays, beginning May 14^th

10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Infant Times I provides current information about infant development, stimulation, and 'self-calming' techniques. Class also provides opportunities for sharing and discussion of timely questions from new parents. Parents learn infant massage techniques, stimulating songs, and how to make hand-made toys/equipment and play games. Class Cost: $45

Parents learn how toddlers aged 12-18 months learn through songs, finger plays, toys, crafts, puppets and books in order to expand language, sensory learning and physical independence. Students explore and create age-appropriate play and communication in a joyful, stimulating environment.

Summer Term Tuition Assistance SBCC Center for Lifelong Learning will accept applications for tuition assistance for summer classes April 6 – May 8, 2015. Interested students may apply for a $75 tuition e-voucher. Applicants who apply for tuition assistance must demonstrate financial need, and are limited to one voucher per term, and two vouchers per academic year.
