Through close reading and open discussion of Macbeth, pursue the meaning of and questions arising from the lines. Discuss plot, character, theme, point of view, and setting. Analyze the effect of words, ambiguity, irony, paradox, images, metaphors, patterns, and cadences in each work, and explore the effect on the reader of the Bard’s portrayal of culture and values.

Modern and Classic Short Stories
Pursue
a close reading of texts paying sustained attention to the characters, plot,
style, images, metaphors, patterns, and themes that carry the story forward.
During each session we read one story aloud, stopping to discuss its impact and
development paragraph by paragraph. We engage in an interpretive immersion that
transforms attention into deeper thought and comprehension.
