On August 24th the Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL)  invites the entire community to celebrate its Grand Opening at an exciting and interactive event. The Center for Lifelong Learning launches in fall 2013 as a new Santa Barbara City College (SBCC)  program.

The Grand Opening Celebration will be held at the Wake Campus, 300 North Turnpike Rd, SB 93111, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. The opening ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. 



The day’s events will include food & beverages, activities for families, live performances, hands-on demonstrations and drawings for free classes and other fun prizes. You will also have opportunity to sign up for classes on the spot.

CLL offers the community a comprehensive and vibrant program of very affordable classes, workshops and seminars for adults, families and older adults. Classes will be offered in a wide range of areas including Arts & Crafts, Computers, Culinary, Current Events, Do-it-Yourself, Fitness, Genealogy, Health, Home & Garden, Languages, Literature, Parent Education, Performing Arts, Psychology & Spirituality, and Science & Nature.

Come learn about the fall term schedule; meet CLL instructors; enjoy demonstrations and participate in mini-classes; view examples of student work; connect with other members of the community who share your interests; and enjoy high quality entertainment and refreshments.

Viva la Cooking!

Latin American Cuisine
Learn how to make a variety of exciting dishes from Latin America. This hands-on class will feature delicious foods from Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Brazil and Argentina. Enjoy preparing homemade dishes suchas Mexican Tamales wrapped in banana leaves, Mexican stews, Cuban-style Pork Roast, Peruvian Ceviche, Brazilian Moqueca (seafood stew with coconut milk) and Argentinean Empanadas. Students will learn different cooking techniques and explore unique ingredients and new spices. Students of all skill levels welcome.

Viva la Music & Dance!

Playing the Guitar for Beginners
This course teaches students simple accompaniment for songs as well as chords, rhythm techniques and left-hand and right-hand coordination.

World Dance Workout
This exercise class uses dance styles and music from around the world including Latin, Middle Eastern, Irish, Balkan and African, giving students an energizing workout. Movements are easy to follow for both beginning and experienced dancers.

Do you love ‘Downton Abbey’ or the BBC ‘Sherlock’? Are you a Comic-Con or ‘Star Wars II’ fan? Come explore the intricacies of costume design and construction for theatre, film and TV. Or make your child’s Halloween costume wishes come true. Make your own custom dress form or bum roll. Draft, drape or adapt a commercial

dramatization and puppets, and learn songs, rhymes, sign language and finger plays in an interactive environment. Students also learn how music can be used as a tool to guide daily routines and transitions.
