Glass Fusing

with Carolyn Holguin

6 Tuesdays, beginning June 24^th

12:30 p.m.  – 4 p.m.

OR 6 Wednesdays, beginning June 25^th

5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Students will learn basic skills to create several fused glass pieces. Emphasis will be placed on creating functional, yet artistic pieces, including a small plate or bowl. The class will be taught at a relaxed pace with emphasis on artistry and fun. Students will experience the wonderfully equipped glass studio. Enameling: Glass on Metal 

with David Rosen

9 Thursdays, beginning June 26^th

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

This course on the art of enameling on metal begins by exploring the basic principles of enameling through the melting of powdered glass on the surface of copper or silver sheet metal in artistic patterns. Students also learn a variety of more advanced techniques including the use of silver or gold foils and cloisonné. Class Cost: $160.00   Materials Cost: $35.00

Creating Ceramic Containers

7 Fridays, beginning June 27^th 

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
You would like just the right decorative pot for that certain spot in your home. Stop looking and make your own! In this class you will explore the techniques of hand building and wheel throwing to create containers especially for fresh cut flowers and potted plants. No experience is needed to complete these ceramic projects, just a desire to create something beautiful with your own hands. All skill levels will benefit from demonstrations and then choose to complete their project by hand building or wheel throwing. Class Cost: $136.00   Materials Cost: $25.00

CLL Student Honored for Original Jewelry Design

CLL student Gayle Minjarez discovered her passion for jewelry making – and for CLL classes –  20 years ago!

“The [CLL] jewelry program is one of the best jewelry labs in Southern California.”

CLL Teacher Martin Fowler introduced Gayle to the process of reticulation in her first jewelry class at the Wake Center nearly 20 years ago.  One of his recent classes taught students how to do “fold forming” combined with reticulation.

"After the class I designed my Origami Bracelet using the fold forming technique and adding a different style of box clasp.  The reticulation texture creates another dimension and interest to the surface.”

Gayle’s bracelet was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2013 Lewton-Brain fold forming competition.”

Create your own "precious..." 

Jewelry Making with Silver Precious Metal Clay

Take a lump of silver clay, shape it, stamp it, fire it and then wear it with pride. Silver Precious Metal Clay (PMC) to create remarkable jewelry items. PMC is made of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. It can be sculpted and formed like clay. It is then fired in a kiln where the silver particles solidify into the object created. A fast and creative way to make silver jewelry quickly and with minimal equipment.

High Style/Low Tech Jewelry Making

Learn how to silver solder using a crème brûlée torch. Fabricate simple rings, bracelets and earrings. Explore creating your own simple findings to adorn your pieces with interesting beading techniques!
