It’s all happening in February! February may be the shortest month, but its filled with celebrations! All month long we celebrate Black History, as well as Valentine’s Day, President’s Day and Lunar New Year! There may be only a few days left in February, but there’s a lot happening at the CLL.

Welcome, Jeanette!

We’re pleased to welcome Jeanette as our new Associate Director!
Jeanette grew up in Atlanta and then graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with an engineering degree.
Prior to joining us at the CLL, Jeanette served as the Director of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Santa Barbara for 11 years and was responsible for overseeing all programs and fundraising events for the Central California region. Jeanette also taught English in Beijing, China, and worked in the Technology Department of software company MicroStrategy, Inc. in Virginia.

Spring Tuition Assistance
The deadline to apply for a $75 CLL Spring Term Tuition Assistance award is this Friday, February 20th, at 4 p.m.

What's Happening in Crafts at the CLL?


What's Happening in Crafts at the CLL?

Want to make the world a more beautiful and fascinating place? Let the CLL be “at the center” of all your creative pursuits. 

More crafts classes are starting soon! (These classes fill fast, so be sure to register early.)
            •  Individualized Sewing
            • Glass Fusing
            • Jewelry Making with Silver Precious Metal Clay
            •  And so many more!
               
5 Wednesdays, beginning February 18th
This class is designed for the student who has a desire to learn to sew and/or improve their sewing skills. Students will be guided through the techniques necessary to construct a project of their choice. Projects will provide the opportunity for creativity, achievement and success through a combination of theory and practical experience. Class Cost: $84 Materials Cost: $5


4 Mondays, beginning February 23rd
1:30 p.m.-4:30p.m.
Students will learn basic skills to create several fused glass pieces. Emphasis will be placed on creating functional, yet artistic pieces, including a small plate or bowl. The class will be taught at a relaxed pace with emphasis on artistry and fun. Students will experience the wonderfully equipped glass studio. Class Cost: $83 Materials Cost: $6




Jewelry Making with Silver Precious Metal Clay
4 Mondays, beginning March 2nd
12:30 p.m.-4:30 pm. 
Take a lump of silver clay, shape it, stamp it, fire it and then wear it with pride. Silver Precious Metal Clay (PMC) to create remarkable jewelry items. PMC is made of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. It can be sculpted and formed like clay. It is then fired in a kiln where the silver particles solidify into the object created. A fast and creative way to make silver jewelry quickly and with minimal equipment. Class Cost: $143 Materials Cost: $200

Chickens have distinct personalities that are both entertaining and educational, while their eggs are just plain delicious!

Come learn the basics of raising and keeping backyard chickens, and how to prepare many delicious recipes with those fresh eggs!

Keeping Backyard Chickens
6 Saturdays, beginning February 7
9 a.m.-12 Noon

Come learn the basics of keeping backyard chickens, and introduce yourself to the myriad of benefits that just begins with fresh organic eggs. With small group projects and class discussions, you’ll quickly understand just how easy and enjoyable it is to keep chickens. Discover which breeds work for you, where to find them, how to keep them safe and healthy, and tips for safe egg handling. Class Cost: $90.00 Materials Cost: $5.00

6 p.m.-9p.m.

Chicken and Egg - two of the most versatile ingredients for the simplest of healthy meals to the most elaborate. Save money by learning how to cut up whole chickens and filets, while learning knife skills and cooking techniques; simple home-made Chicken-Soup - for the soul; how to turn one chicken dish to several different meal and eggs beyond the breakfast food. Come learn many delicious recipes including appetizers, entrees and desserts. Class Cost: $62.00 Materials Cost: $24.00
